That’s a solid price for the Series 11. At $299, it’s much easier to recommend than at full retail.

Lots of apologists here today, but I agree with you. When you stop offering software updates for the flagship product you were still selling 3 years ago, it’s bad form.

Either the product roadmap is broken or the operating system roadmap is.

You can put all the “my brother in law is still using his Apple Watch 4” spin on it you want. He didn’t pay $800 for it 3 years ago. He probably got it for free as a hand me down from the person that bought that U1 that isn’t getting software upgrades anymore.

You can fruit wash it all you want. I’ll never blow $800 on another Apple Watch. This is my last one. I have other watches that I paid about the same money for that charge in the sun, get time from the atomic clock, and work 100% 15 years after I bought them.

I'm not being apologetic when I say, once again, Its to check the time or a notification so I don't have to pull out my iPhone from my pocket, or my iPad from its sleeve, everything else for me is extra.

I can see why Apple doesn't update it regularly, its just a watch.

Not in the market, but if I was, it would be a hard pass because of the support cut off from the AW8 and AWU.

Cheaping out and keeping the same processor for 2-3 years has meant that huge swathes of the AW series suddenly lose support.

If we see the Sx processors start to be iterated yoy like the iPhone - i.e. - so they keep up to speed with where Apple's overall platform features are going (basically Apple Intelligence and Siri AI) then I might consider another AW.

But until then, I'm happy to wear mine until it becomes a security hazard.

Apple has always reused CPUs across multiple generations - this isn't the first time they've done this - standard operating procedure for Apple Watch...

They don't "lose support" - they just don't get Watch OS 27 - they will continue to operate like they did the day they were purchased getting security updates and will continue to be supported interacting with the latest iOS for a decade or more...

I'll give you that Apple could have made an AI-less Watch OS 27 for those devices and it would have been better for them and us. I'm sure it was a cost savings move on Apple's part, which I frown on despite the above.

This is spreading misinformation.

The AWU1 got 3 years of updates and will continue to get 5-6+ years of security updates. There are still people today using their Apple Watch Series 3 (2017) with the latest iPhone on iOS 27 - doing all the things it did when it was new. An Apple Watch Series 3 vs an Apple Watch today isn't all that much different - it does what it does well and that's why 150-200+ million people wear Apple Watches.

I have family wearing Series 5 watches that are still going strong today - exercising daily (I get the notifications).

For those that are happy with and can get by with a Casio - I highly recommend Casio G-Shocks.

Those of us who use and benefit from an Apple Watch - it is the best watch I've ever worn. This is a really good price for a smart watch that can last a decade or more.
