The part I don't get is that retailers who have instantly raised their prices already had the hardware in stock. It's not new stock. There's a retailer in Australia who couldn't put up the prices quick enough. Extra $$ straight to profit.

While the price increases were inevitable, a few observations:
1. Prices were raised (and will continue to rise) so the blame will not go onto the next Apple CEO in September.
2. These prices are here to stay, no matter what the market does, its very basic economics (and a good time to buy Apple stock).
3. I predict we will see fewer product announcements to limit the monitory exposure
4. As more people hold onto devices longer now, watch for those battery replacements costs go up (would not be surprised to see new service fees added on before long).
5. Trade in values will not budge to keep a money psychology in play to "feel I getting a deal"
6. Previously loved devices will see more increases with fewer discounts.

Best Buy and Amazon both show increased prices on the MacBook Air and iPad Pro.

I do see Costco is holding the line on their sale price, though the sale ends on 7/5 so I expect the price to increase at that time.

(IMO, good for them to keep the pre-advertised sales price. I wonder how the communication worked from Apple to their vendors about the price hikes. Obviously not an area of the business world with which I'm familiar.)
