Trying to get a child or pet to look toward the lens when you're taking their picture can be a challenging experience. That's why on iPhone Duo, Apple includes a Kid Cue feature that plays a fun animation on the outer display. The idea is that your subject's attention is drawn to the camera. Meanwhile, you have a chance to frame the shot using the inner display.

Kid Cue is exclusive to iPhone Duo, but it's not a completely novel feature. Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold already has a "Made You Look" mode that works in largely the same way – playing a cute animation on the outer screen to capture a kid's attention while you frame the shot. But this is the first time Apple has applied the concept. Here's how it works.
How to Use Kid Cue on iPhone Duo
- Unfold your iPhone Duo so you're looking at the inner display.
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap the "Outer Display Options" button (it looks like a column view icon) in the top-left corner.
- Tap Kid Cue. The outer display will now play a Snoopy-themed animation to get your subject's attention.
- Tap the shutter button to take a photo, or the Record button to shoot a video. (You can also press either volume button or click the Camera Control button.)

That's all there is to it. Bear in mind that your subject will be looking slightly off to the side, because the iPhone Duo uses the main camera lens (i.e. not the selfie camera). It's a tiny trade-off, but it's worth it if your subject is a bit, well, restless, shall we say.
Note that the same "Outer Display Options" button also offers Duo Preview, which shows your subject a mirrored live preview of the shot instead of an adorable animation.
