Apple Now Lets You Turn Off Subscription Renewal Emails

by

If you pay for several services like Apple Arcade and Apple Music on a monthly basis, subscription renewal emails can quickly become excessive. Fortunately, Apple now has a solution for this.

As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple has added a toggle switch to its subscription page that allows users to opt out of receiving subscription renewal emails. When the toggle switch is turned off, Apple will no longer send monthly emails confirming payment of $4.99 for ‌Apple Arcade‌, $9.99 for ‌Apple Music‌, and so forth.

The opt-out option applies to both Apple's services and subscriptions in third-party apps.

To opt out of subscription renewal emails, navigate to the Settings app, tap on your Apple ID account name, tap on Subscriptions, and toggle off Receive Renewal Receipts. This can be turned back on at any time.

Receipts are always available in ‌Apple ID‌ settings > Purchase History.

Apple, let me help you with this: it ain’t enough to just give us a global on/off toggle. In reality, people will want to be reminded of certain subscriptions while of others not. That’s so freaking obvious, why not give that option right away?

I’m annoyed by this development by baby steps.

Can they do the same for software updates too?
You’re getting emails for software updates??

Disagree. Too complicated, too many things to go wrong. I turn off some subscription, forget about it, then realize a year later I've wasted $120+?

What they should do is offer a summary receipt that combines a week or month's worth of billing into one.
I like this. And how about combining all the subscriptions into one charge?

A better solution would be to allow users to combine subscriptions into a single payment. Then I’d only get a single receipt! #ThinkDifferent
The problem with that is, they probably worry that people will see the huge monthly total in one lump and will start looking at what to drop, whereas $4.99 now and $2.99 a week later and $9.99 a few days later looks more manageable

This is great. Unsubscribed instantly.

I know just have a todo that repeats every month to go into Settings and review my subscriptions.

However, I don’t see iCloud in this list? It’s a pity, this list should include ALL subscriptions.

Next, please allow us to hide News+ stories from our timeline on the News app. Right now, half my news feed is taken over by what are effectively ads — stories I can’t read without a subscription.

As a result, I decided to rubbish the entire app. Atrocious user experience.
