Touchscreen MacBook Pro's New Hinge Linked to iPhone Duo 2

Apple's upcoming touchscreen MacBook Pro will feature hinge improvements related to changes planned for future iPhone Duo models, according to a last-minute claim ahead of its expected announcement later today.

In a new Weibo post, the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital" said that one of the new ‌MacBook Pro‌'s key upgrades is its hinge design. The improved design is apparently related to plans for the second- and third-generation ‌iPhone Duo‌.

The MacBook hinge claim aligns with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman's reporting that Apple has redesigned the mechanism to keep the display steady during touch input, alongside cooling changes that improve airflow through the hinge area.

Gurman has separately said that Apple is considering a larger inner display for a future ‌iPhone Duo‌, potentially measuring around 7.9 to 8.1 inches compared to the current model's 7.6 inches. It is unclear whether the hinge changes mentioned by Fixed Focus Digital relate to that potential redesign.

The leaker also reiterated that the new ‌MacBook Pro‌ will use a dual-layer OLED display and carry a substantial price increase. Gurman separately reported that Apple has discussed a $2,899 starting price for the 14-inch model with an M5 Pro chip, up from $2,499 for the existing equivalent.

Apple is expected to announce the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ models later today, alongside its "Pro and tell" media experience in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

RIP, MacBook Ultra

Monday October 19, 2026 9:37 am PDT by
Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

It shouldn’t do that due to relative placement, but some of the videos I saw indicated the current Duo hinge sucks at keeping dust or larger particulates out so long-term durability is still a question in my mind.
I hope you're not referring to JerryRigEverything. If so, you're getting bad information. The error comes in a misinterpretation of what the '6' in IP68 means. It doesn't mean it's completely impervious to dust. It means particles larger than 0.2mm won't get in. Smaller particles will. When Zack (aka JerryRigEverything) poured sand onto the Duo, it was guaranteed dust would get in. There are no impervious phones.

The '8' in IP68 also doesn't mean a phone is waterproof. It means continuous immersion in water up to 1 meter for a certain amount of time, usually 30 minutes. Put it below 1 meter and the phone can be potentially destroyed. Yet people think IP68 means a device is completely immune to dust and water. It isn't.

When Zack bent the phone, you could tell he was straining as hard as he could. Was he using the same pressure on other phones? Probably not. The hinge did not break. The screen did, but was that from the bend or from the sand? When sand gets in, you never know where that sand settles. The sand, rubbing in the wrong spots when the phone is bent, could easily have broken the screen. Have him do that without sand and see if the screen survives. People point out the weaker IP48-rated Z Fold 8 did not break the screen. All that proved is that the sand didn't settle into a vital area.

JerryRigEverything tests are the most unscientific tests you can imagine. He uses different pressures when bending phones. He'll prod and poke a phone with his knife, pulling off pieces before subjecting them to sand or bend tests that could damage a phone's structural integrity. He also does jump cuts going from scratching a phone to having sand already in the phone. What happened in between?

Basically, his channel is for entertainment, not to inform anyone. Don't believe unscientific tests. Companies paid enormous amounts of money run tests on electronics to see if they comply with common specs, in this case the IP standard by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). The IP standard is scientifically tested, proving the Duo meets the '6' in the IP68 rating. Zack's tests are not.
