We just published Apple's list of iPhone Duo repair fees for customers without AppleCare+ coverage, and we want to bring extra attention to two of the fees in particular: a new cover layer costs $49, and a replacement battery is $229.
Apple's vice president of hardware engineering Kate Bergeron revealed that the iPhone Duo's nano-texture cover layer above the inner display can be removed and replaced. A new one is $19 with AppleCare+ and $49 without.
it's the price of two batteries, so 229/2=114.5 USD per battery
Apple is going nuts with its pricing. I think they’ll turn people away if they keep raising prices like this. I understand their point about rising RAM and storage costs, but what makes a replacement battery worth $229? What’s the justification there?
There are two batteries, not one. 2x the labor as well.
