"We love that early energy," reads the Apple Store's message when visiting the U.S. website. "Almost ready for you. Pre-order begins at 5:00 a.m. PT. See you soon." Apple has been opening pre-orders at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time for several years, rather than the 12:01 a.m. start time it previously used. Today the store went down especially early.

Customers in more than 65 countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, the UAE, the U.K., and the U.S., will be able to pre-order both models when the store comes back online.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max come in Burgundy, Glacier, Silver, and Black. Both models are available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage capacities, bringing the 2TB option to the smaller Pro model for the first time.

In the United States, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models launch on Friday, September 18, when deliveries to customers and in-store availability begin.

It’s 2026. Apple really doesn’t need to shut down an entire online store for hours just to start selling a new iPhone. Modern web platforms have staged deployments, traffic queues and real-time inventory management. This was cute a decade ago. Now it just feels like artificial hype wrapped in outdated theater.

I wish the duo was up for pre-order ☹️

Why do they have to take the whole store down… I need to order something for pickup later but can’t because of this 🙄
This is a good thing. Other companies need to do this.

I'm tired of bots scalping stock and then flipping it online on eBay for ridiculous prices.

This is the first year in decades I have zero interest in buying a new iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro or anything else from the Cupertino company.

The only product of interest was the iPhone Duo, however now that I’ve seen it’s odd rather diminutive size and shape, hampered by being so heavy thick and cumbersome as compared to the competitors, I’m no longer interested.

Thus what is of interest, is finding out just who this phone is for.

I do believe the Duo will sell well since a large number of Apple customers buy shiny new phones just to show them off.
