Apple Raises iPhone Prices in Japan

They’re determined to ruin everyone’s weekend.

The price increases clearly seem to be due to exchange rate changes. The increases are keeping prices inline with U.S. prices.

The new pre-tax prices in Japan are as follows compared to current pre-tax U.S. prices:
iPhone 17 Pro Max is around ¥195,727 or $1,202 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $1,199.
iPhone 17 Pro is around ¥177,090 or $1,090 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $1,099.
iPhone 17 Air is around ¥161,636 or $995 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $999.
iPhone 17 is around ¥129,818 or $799 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $829.
iPhone 17e is around ¥98,000 or $603 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $599.
iPhone 16 is around ¥113,455 or $699 USD. Same phone in U.S. is $729.

It's not uncommon for Apple to adjust prices (up or down) due to notable exchange rate changes.

Spot on. Though many here won't know what that means. Much easier to say Apple is being evil (a crowd pleaser) and call it a day.

After raising prices on all Macs and iPads ('https://www.macrumors.com/2026/06/25/apple-explains-why-it-raised-prices/') worldwide last month, Apple has now increased the price of iPhone models in Japan.



As spotted by the Spanish blog iPhoneros ('https://iphoneros.com/104946/subida-precios-iphone-japon'), the iPhone 16, iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max all received price increases on Apple's online store in Japan today. Prices increased by up to 11%.

Apple attributed the Mac and iPad price increases last month to the ongoing memory chip shortage, which has driven up chip prices. In this case, however, the increases are likely due to the Japanese yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar over the past year.

Apple did not raise iPhone prices today in the U.S. or any other countries that we checked.

Apple also raised the prices of iCloud+ ('https://www.macrumors.com/2026/07/17/apple-icloud-plus-price-increase/') and Apple Music plans ('https://www.macrumors.com/2026/07/17/apple-music-price-increase/') in many countries today, including Japan, so price increases are a theme this Friday.

I’m just going to say it, that orange 17 pro may be the ugliest iPhone ever .

That does make sense.

Apple needs to increase prices in Japan as the value of the Japanese yen continues to erode.
