Apple plans to release an iPhone 17e and an iPad Air with an M4 chip "in the coming weeks," according to the latest word from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
"Apple retail employees say that inventory of the iPhone 16e has basically dried out and the iPad Air is seeing shortages as well," said Gurman. "I've been expecting new versions of both (iPhone 17e and M4 iPad Air) in the coming weeks."
The iPhone 17e will be a spec-bumped successor to the iPhone 16e. Rumors claim the device will have four key upgrades over the iPhone 16e, including MagSafe, an A19 chip instead of an A18 chip, Apple's second-generation C1X modem instead of the C1 modem, and Apple's N1 chip for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread.
No other major changes have been rumored for the iPhone 17e, so the device's overall design and other specs should be similar to the iPhone 16e, which has a 6.1-inch OLED display and a single 48-megapixel rear camera.
Like the iPhone 16e, the iPhone 17e is expected to start at $599 in the United States.
As for the iPad Air, it is expected to receive a bump from the M3 chip to the M4 chip. No other major changes have been rumored for the device.
Apple has yet to reveal when the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra will be announced and released, but the dates usually follow a familiar pattern.
