iPhone 17 Pro Said to Feature 12GB of RAM, 48-Megapixel Telephoto Camera, and More

In a research note with investment firm GF Securities on Monday, analyst Jeff Pu said both the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a 48-megapixel Telephoto rear camera, up from a 12-megapixel Telephoto camera on iPhone 16 Pro models.

This means all three Fusion, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro models would be 48 megapixels.

The devices are expected to have a new rectangular camera bump.

He also expects the iPhone 17 Pro models to be equipped with 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in iPhone 16 Pro models. This increase in memory would contribute to improved performance for Apple Intelligence and multitasking.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will have familiar 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes, respectively, he said.

The devices will have an A19 Pro chip made with TSMC's newer third-generation 3nm process, N3P, according to the analyst.

Make a better phone. We don't really care about the camera as much as they think. Because it seems that is all they ever really improve.
I think you're maybe speaking for yourself or a very small minority of people. The camera is an important feature to a huge number of people out there.

When people are wanting a phone recommendation, the first question I ask is "iOS or Android", then the next one is "how important is the camera?". A lot of people absolutely do factor the camera into their purchase decision.

48mp telephoto sensor would be an instant purchase for me. The bump in available detail would be a huge QOL update.

The telephoto in my 15 Pro Max has been good so far, but I do wish I had a larger resolution image at the end of it.

That's great. But you've missed the point entirely. They push the camera improvements in the phone release each year because there aren't seemingly enough other areas for innovation. Mostly because of Cook's lack of vision and their poor software development team. When they tout how great the camera improvements are, the minimally iterative improvements are meant to distract you from the fact that from the 13 to the 14 to 15 to the 16, you are essentially buying the same device. The 17 is likely going to follow suit.
