Whatever the price, I'm staying on the fence (for years if necessary) until that miserable keyboard is fixed. Even listening to nearby people noisily typing (CLACK! CLACK! CLACK!) on their current generation MacBook Pro keyboard just irks me...

You won’t be getting a usb-a port on any Apple laptop ever again. Dongles aren't expensive. If you can afford a 2000$ machine you can afford 20$ for two dongles or new cables.
