I currently own an M5 13" iPad Pro, an iPad mini 7 & an iPhone 16 Pro Max. As an artist & photographer, the idea of combining my iPhone Pro Max & iPad mini into one device is intriguing. My 13" iPad Pro is my main drawing device, but I also like the iPad mini for drawing when i wanna travel light. And I use my iPhone pro max for most of my photography. As cool as the iPhone Duo is, i don't think it's a solution for me. For one thing, the camera system is not as good as the iPhone pro max and for drawing, you can only use the usbc apple pencil which doesn't have pressure sensitivity. That's a no go for me. But if someone isn't an artist or into photography, but owns an iphone & ipad mini, i think the Duo is a great device. I am kind of envious. I would love to have both my ipad mini & iphone combined. Perhaps someday in the future the Duo will get pro level cameras and be able to work with the Apple pencil pro. Until then, i plan to upgrade my iphone 16 pro max to the 18 pro max and my ipad mini 7 to the OLED ipad mini 8 when it comes out. 👍

There’s no question that the Nano Texture screen is nice. Both of my iPads have it, along with my iMac. I am very careful with my iPad Pros. I use a stylus. And when I am not using a stylus, I make of the hover feature with the Pencil Pro.

In my opinion, a lot of people are going to end up scratching their phone screen very quickly and they won't like all the scratches. Their hearts will sink when they find out that AC+ doesn't cover scratches. While the regular iPhone screens will scratch, the affects of it on a Nano screen are amplified.

I don’t think the nano is the outer layer. I LOVE nano on my iPad because it feels like silk on my fingers and with a pencil. The feeling is what draws me, not necessarily the anti glare

Having two devices is very much the point for me. Consolidation can go too far and I like having a backup device. I will likely trade my iPad Pro in for a mini if the impending launch speculations are remotely correct. Although it’s rare, there are times when the cellular function of the iPad works when the iPhone has no network.

I certainly hate the iPhone Duo less than all other foldables ever, as expected, however it’s not solving a problem I have…

No the front screen uses Ceramic Shield 2 which reduces glare and reflections, but not as much as nano texture does.

Not sure how it could replace an iPad. The internal (unfolded) screen is only 7.6". The iPad Mini 7 has an 8.3" screen. And at $2K or more, I'm absolutely not interested. If it makes you happy, go for it. I will continue to "struggle" with my iPhone 17PM, iPad mini and M4 iPad Air 13".

Hi! This thread is really interesting. On Marques Brownlee first video of Duo, he expects that outer screen is going to be used proximately 70% of the time. I agree on particular cases when they spend a lot of time weekly traveling in bus/train/plane where they have the convenience to have a more immersive screen without the need to carry another device in their bags. For that cases, the Duo is an stellar device (if the camera requirements of the user are low-mid). However, if you are going to use the inner screen mainly to consume media at home because you don’t have these entertainment times outside, I much prefer to carry an iPhone pro with great cameras/ Face ID and have an iPad at home. In my case, I still have an 11” pro M1 with magic keyboard used mainly for writing purposes like now (mac are almost useless for me, except for official tasks with certificate ID, which have really bad compatibility with iPads in my country) and I have and iPad mini 6 for media consumption. I love the mini form factor as it is really comfortable in couch or bed.
Regarding iPad mini 8 rumors, a great overhaul is expected leaded by oled screen (although promotion is in serious doubt). Why Apple would spend so much developing a new mini if they only expects sales cannibalization with Duo? Maybe they surprise us in some weeks with new features that differentiate more the new model with Duo. I’m really looking forward to that…

In my view, you shouldn't try to replace them (meaning getting rid of a dedicated tablet)

1) if you are professional pen users
I guess if you are already using an ipad mini as this purpose, you should be ok???

2) have & need a bigger screen than the mini size.

You will never be satisfied.
However, if you want to have a phone that can turn into iPad mini on the go, you'd be happy.

Yes. I plan on having it replace my iPad mini which I really only use before bed. I have an 11inch iPad Pro I am considering selling and will just use my MacBook Air more after I have the Duo. I’ve played around with some Samsung foldables over the years and see the potential, just dislike Android. Really looking forward to the Duo.

Yes, my mini just broke and I need one for the go server work and monitoring. Easy write off for me and my business. Plus we got some new clients that want to make their apps run well on the duo so I will be essentially getting this for free.

I have an iPad mini 7 as well as an iPhone 16 Pro Max and Samsung Z Fold7.

The Z Fold7 is ideal for the work I do, while traveling during the week. I had no idea till I got it, how great the experience would be.

What I didn’t expect was that I still prefer my iPhone when I’m not working and find I still enjoy the iPad mini for reading, content consumption and casual use.

I have no complaints with the Z Fold7, but I’ve learned that I prefer separate devices instead consolidating two into one.

Same, I hate extra unnecessary bulk/weight, and personally I have no desire for a big screen while I'm out because I pretty much do all my consumption at home. When I'm out I want the lightest, thinnest (and preferably smallest and narrowest) phone, so a Duo doesn't work at all for that. I do a lot of consumption at home though, so when I get home I often leave my phone charging and carry around my iPad Mini.

But one annoyance about the Mini is it doesn't fit in my pocket so I end up carrying it by hand around the house. So if Apple at some point down the line wants to make a folding non-phone iPad Mini (ie. secondary device that has full Continuity features, no front screen, no cell radios, and no fancy multiple camera), I would buy that. Heck I might even buy the Duo if they put full Continuity features on iPhones so they can act as secondary devices.

No, they won't. Because it doesn't run iPadOS. All they're getting on it is iPhone only apps.

Will find out come October / November. I travel quite often for work, and currently take my Macbook air, iPad Pro 13" and two iPhones (and ocassionally an iPad mini). Im curious to see what can I effectly do on the iPD and what it could replace on my travels. I would imagine at the very least it would allow me to gift my iPad mini. But ultimately I dont think it will fully replace my iPad Pro 13" in my current workflow (as I love to use it as an extra monitor for my macbook air).

Similar to my stress test of the Fold 8 form the S26 Ultra, I will be doing the same with the iPhone Duo. With the Duo coming with a valor chamber, I will definitely be putting it through its paces. Especially with video editing. Standard 4K/120, as well as cinematic Mode 4k/60. Unfortunately no ProRes, but I can deal.

Hi! Here we have a great size comparison to comment:

1- Watch movies and panoramic videos in iphone pro max or duo inner screen give you exact same size of screen (without black bars). However, size is much bigger in current ipad mini (pending to confirm in new model has any screen increase)

2- Outer screen of duo is much shorter than iphone pro (regular) so current format of webpages and other apps like WhatsApp, X, Facebook, Instagram, etc are going to show much less content unless they adapt the resolution specifically for duo.

I like the comparisons with the IPAD mini. I read a rumors that apple may release larger screened folds, I would not disagree with the direction. The more variations in screen sizes would be great.
