India definitely has the technical knowledge to do exactly that. So, what are the impediments to spawning clones? Cultural, industrial, infrastructure???? I want to understand.
Mostly infrastructure right now. Indian manufacturing cannot compare with Chinese as of today. We're growing, but nowhere near what China has.

I read an article from Pebble's (e-paper smartwatches) CEO. When he visited China, he shared his ideas for watch redesign and had multiple prototypes to test by that same evening. That particular anecdote stuck with me. We (India) don't have that kind of capability yet.
