Apple Event Today: Tim Cook Kicks Things Off With 'Good Morning' Video

Ahead of the WWDC 2026 keynote at 10 a.m. Pacific Time today, Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared a short video in which country singer Lainey Wilson, actress Rhea Seehorn, DJ and producer Zedd, and other celebrities say "good morning" in various ways.

"I think I'll say it the way I always say it," concludes Cook.

Apple's hardware engineering chief John Ternus becomes CEO on September 1, so this WWDC will likely be Cook's final event running the company.

"It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company," said Cook, back when the CEO transition was announced in April. "I love Apple with all of my being, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a team of such ingenious, innovative, creative, and deeply caring people who have been unwavering in their dedication to enriching the lives of our customers and creating the best products and services in the world."

There are a lot of things Tim Cook did during his tenure that should be commended, but the one thing I hope Apple does under the helm of John Ternus is begin to distance itself from all of the celebrity worship and over-engagement with them.

Good morning... coming from the man who's been nickel and diming and overall treating developers like CRAP for over a decade with App Store extortions. WWDC was supposed to be a live event made for the developers but nowadays it's more likely he'd be booed off stage, so Apple play it safe with pre-recorded productions and Hollywood influencer skits to make him appear human. Can't wait to see the back of him.

Some of those choices were not good ones nor good for the optics of the company. Let's go back to the simplicity and straight to the point of the Job's era. Far too much 'fluff' in their presentations of late. 'Get on with it'!

I've tolerated Tim's leadership, I can't say I liked it.
Meanwhile during the Jobs era…

Steve *loved* associating Apple with celebrities.
He had Kanye West appear at one of their events.
There were iPod and iTunes commercials with Eminem and U2 and Mary J. Blige.
It was a running joke that all of the journalists who went to his events, were subjected to John Mayer.

Also, I have been re-watching all of Apple’s old events going back to 97 in preparation for this week, allow me to inform you that there was absolutely tons of “fluff” at almost all of them.
Macworld almost every year evolved into hour long presentations about the latest version of iWork. You can go back to the threads about those events on this very forum, people absolutely hated when those events got boring. And they did. A lot.
