Whatever you do, don't buy a FireTV.

It's shocking what a garbage OS that is.

Tried to help a relative with one they bought and we just dumped it on Facebook Marketplace and bought a normal LG.

If other companies can sell TVs with their OS built-in, why can't Apple?
Some of these other TVs are affordable and of decent quality.
Is Apple fearful of losing control?
Answer the question!
If what I said is correct, then Apple doesn't NEED to sell the TV.
You might want them to do so, but you can buy an LG C class, get about Apple-level screen quality, and just plug in an Apple TV...

This only fails to work IF the TV somehow overrides HDMI 1 or is otherwise obnoxious. That's what I'm trying to understand, because my CX is just delightful in this way. I simply never have to interact with webOS (good or bad, don't know, don't care) ever after the first setup.

I'd like to see an article on the best dumb TV's for Prime Day. I use the Apple TV and have no use for an operating system on a TV which tends to be cumbersome, gets in the way at times, is slow, and may add cost to the TV for licensing fees to the manufacturer.

I once dealt with a Roku "SmartTV" that would not let us change the channel or input source until we'd connected to the internet and signed into a Roku account.
Pure anti-consumer garbage.
It saddens me that "dumb" TVs are getting increasingly hard to find.
Yeah, it's a crying shame that it has come to this point

These TVs are getting cheaper mainly because of the advertising that all these companies are force-feeding us (some more than others)

I remember some years ago I got a small TV (27") while still being a smart one in a way, isn't quite in your face as others are

I don't even use the built-in "smarts" of it as it's so laughably laggy, and instead I just use an older Chromecast on it and will continue to do so until somehow those somehow aren't able to be used anymore

Yeah, and the way it advertises to you even with paying for it is just ridiculous

Yes, I know other platforms like Roku, Samsung, and others do the same, but I feel like those are less in your face compared to what Amazon does with their Fire TVs/Fire sticks
