Apple Releases iOS 18.4.1 With Bug Fixes

Apple today released iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1, minor updates to the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 operating systems that came out last September. iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 come two weeks after the launch of iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4.

The new software can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

There have been complaints about issues with CarPlay and deleted apps being restored, and iOS 18.4.1 includes several bug fixes. According to Apple's release notes, the update includes bug fixes and security updates. It addresses an issue that could cause wireless ‌CarPlay‌ not to work in select vehicles.

Apple is already testing iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5, updates that are available in a beta capacity right now. iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 will likely launch in May.

No watchOS update?

Bug fixes while new bugs are introduced 🙁 I just want things to be as smooth as iOS 17 was. While not perfect

no its not. if you are on 18.4 ios dev beta and you turn off the beta updates and when normal version comes, it does not show up.
That's why my last sentence says:

If the public release ends up being a newer build, you'll be able to update to that one.
The public release is often the same build as the last beta/RC, so there's no update offered. You can verify this by checking the build number.

The build number for 18.4 RC 2 was 22E240. The build number for the 18.4 public release was 22E240. It's the same exact number, meaning Apple released the same exact build to the public...so there was no update needed if you turned off the beta updates at that point.

Have you ever noticed how the weekly 18.4 beta updates installed version 18.4.0 over and over without changing that number? Updates are largely driven by the build number, not the user-friendly numerical version.

Finally getting rid of 18.4 dev beta. They should release normal versions as 18.4.0.1 instead of 18.4 so we can quickly switch from dev betas to normal versions.
It’s not how software versioning works.

X.y.z

Y : Addition of new features
Z : Bug fixes

And as @BigBlur mentioned, you can just turn off beta updates — regardless of which beta you’re on— and update to the public release when it’s released.
