Now, there are two 5K monitor (considering the new ASUS 5K ProArt) alternatives for the Apple Cinema Display under $800.
They're not as good as the Apple Cinema Display, but they could be good enough for many.
why would i want a giant screen (that generates more heat than a simple steel sheet and will likely deliver more unsolicited advertisements than the aforementioned steel sheet) on the front of the refrigerator door, especially as software updates stop coming after 2-3 years, turning it into a giant attack surface right in the middle of my home network? almost as useful as their rotating 4K TV was back in 2020.
I never understood how this was a stand alone TV model - LG's Gallery Mode does the same thing.
Does it, though? Putting up a screensaver image is not the same thing. The idea with the Frame TV is that it's got a matte finish and blends into the space.
I know it's not the most cutting edge display, but I really do love the look of my Frame TV. I actually had someone come over the other day and do a double take because they weren't sure if it was a TV or a picture. It definitely IS overpriced but it looks so cool in art mode, and Samsung did an amazing job squeezing the power and signal into one really thin little wire. Apparently there's a Hisense model now that has a comparable art mode, but I don't think it's quite as slick with the cabling arrangement. Hope to see more competition in this space.
I love mine. I bought it a little over a year ago, and I don't regret it. When it's in art mode it really looks like a piece of matted art hanging above my fireplace. I haven't seen any other display like it.
