An absolute amazing deal. M2 and 16 GB RAM on an ultra thin laptop with practically all day battery runtime. I have the 8 GB base and it suits my needs and plan to keep it many years… but the price of this device now! Just amazing. If you’re after a laptop this is just really amazing value.

Even with the upgraded memory, this model still has the single NAND chip still, right? That means slower SSD speeds ('https://www.macrumors.com/2022/07/14/m2-macbook-air-slower-ssd-base-model/') vs M1 and M3 base models. But most people probably won't notice the difference. Just something for people to be aware of.

Last month, it was discovered that the 256GB model of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip has up to 50% slower SSD read speeds and up to 30% slower SSD write speeds compared to the equivalent previous-generation model in benchmarks.

Killer deal! I thought this was a great price for an 8GB machine as a general purpose laptop. For 16GB this is amazing.

Of course, within minutes, this thread will be full about people complaining about the 'slow SSD' but that's not really an issue for the sorts of thing this machine will be used for.

If you're on Intel, or need a new MacBook for email, web and productivity, it's hard to go wrong this.

This is probably correct unless there has been a change in components prices and availability. Not sure if any recent tear downs or testing has been done on more recently manufactured units.

Although a non issue for the majority of users, those who are interested or do an unusual amount of large file transfers will probably know already.

But this thing not only happens to laptops but also SSD themselves. Manufacturers have been known to swap chips depending on availability, resulting in different speeds (lower and higher) compared to initial reviews and in some cases official marketing and documentation.
The thing is, if your work involves large file transfers, then 256 ain't right for you anyway. Remember the "slow" SSD is 1.5gb per second. So transferring the entire contents of the SSD is a theoretical less than 3 minutes. Now are you doing that level of transfer multiple times a day and also went out and bought a laptop with 256 of storage?

You mean that Amazon.com introduced this deal today. Good luck finding a similar deal in Canada, or anywhere else for that matter. Why the assumption that everybody reading the post is in the US? (Don’t worry, it’s rhetorical. We know why.)

Great deal indeed! If they had this out back in August, I might have leaned more towards the Air than the Pro.
Don’t lean on it, it’s super thin and will bend easily.
