Alleged MacBook Pro Packaging Leak Reveals These Four Upgrades
Over the past two days, a leaker known as ShrimpApplePro has shared alleged images of the next-generation 14-inch MacBook Pro's box.
Alleged packaging for a new 14-inch MacBook ProThese are obviously blurry, sketchy images that could easily be faked, and the box
showing the same wallpaper from the current MacBook Pro series is also a red flag, so skepticism is certainly warranted. However, given that ShrimpApplePro surfaced accurate images of
packaging for the iPhone 14 Pro and the
current MacBook Pro, before each of those devices were announced, we have elected to share this latest leak just in case.
On the off chance that the packaging is real, it reveals four upgrades that would be coming on the next base model 14-inch MacBook Pro:
- M4 chip: The next base model 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be powered by Apple's M4 chip, which debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year. The chip is expected to have a 10-core CPU, up from the M3 chip's 8-core CPU.
- 16GB of RAM: It was previously rumored that 16GB of RAM could become the minimum for all future Macs, and the alleged packaging indeed shows that the next 14-inch MacBook Pro would start with 16GB of RAM.
- An additional Thunderbolt 4 port: The alleged packaging indicates that the next base model 14-inch MacBook Pro will have three Thunderbolt 4 ports, compared to two on the previous model.
- Space Black: The alleged packaging appears to show that Space Black will become a color option for the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, whereas it is currently exclusive to models configured with the M3 Pro or M3 Max chip.
Again, this leak could very well be fake, but some of these upgrades had already been rumored and might end up happening regardless.
Apple is expected to announce the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October.
