Apple Seeds Third Public Beta of macOS 13 Ventura

Apple today seeded the third beta of macOS Ventura to its public beta testing group, allowing non-developers to test the new macOS Ventura operating system ahead of its release. The third beta comes two weeks after the second public beta and it corresponds with the fifth developer beta.

Public beta testers can download the macOS 13 Ventura update from the Software Update section of the System Preferences app after installing the proper profile from Apple's beta software website.

macOS Ventura introduces Stage Manager, a new multi-tasking option for focusing on a task while having other apps waiting in the wings. ‌Stage Manager‌ puts your main app front and center, tucking your other apps to the side for quick access.

Continuity Camera allows you to use your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac, offering much better camera quality than the built-in Mac camera. Apple is building special stands to hold the iPhone with a Mac, and there are neat features like Desk View, which uses the Ultra Wide lens.

Handoff now works with FaceTime so you can answer calls on the Mac and then transfer them over to another device, and Messages is gaining undo, edit, and mark as unread features. SharePlay now works in Messages in addition to ‌FaceTime‌, and the Mail app has been overhauled. Search is more relevant, emails can be scheduled, and there's even an option to undo an email for up to 10 seconds after it's sent.

Apple brought the Weather and Clock apps to the Mac, redesigned System Preferences and renamed it System Settings, and added support for Shared Tab Groups. Passwords are being replaced with more secure Passkeys in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, and there are updates to Spotlight, Visual Lookup, Live Text, and more.

There are a ton of other features in macOS Ventura, and we have a full rundown available in our dedicated macOS Ventura roundup.

After install, check activity monitor for process associated with mail called powerd taking approx 100% CPU after being installed. If running in this manner type this in terminal to stop it. it won't run afterwards.

sudo pmset schedule cancelall

The power system will try to prevent entering sleep to execute the scheduled task, but things get a little crazy and enter an endless loop where the powerd process is used abnormally long. Normally powerd should consume 0.1% CPU, but it reaches 104% - 105% CPU.

Agreed.

Not sure why everyone wants to jump on the betas right away. I mean, either way, you’re probably going to use the OS for about a year… So would you rather put up with buggy betas for over a third of the year (June/July - September/October), and then a stable OS for the rest (September/October - June/July)? Or use a stable and more polished OS for a whole year (September/October - September/October)?

Don’t get me wrong…some betas can be stable, and the final release might have some bugs. But why take the chance, especially if it’s your only device and not really participating by providing feedback?

Well, wifi seems to be broken on my 16“ m1pro. The menu bar icon shows the usual „no internet connection“ but the wifi switch is turned off and grayed out. In settiongs/wifi it shows the wifi switch on like usual and shows to be connected to my wifi and no issues with internet connection. Well, sadly all apps seem to be following the menu bar icon. Wifi works with the ios 16 and ipados 16 betas with no issues.

Anyone else have those issues?

Edit: yes, i turned it off and on again, and then some …
Edit 2: screenshot added

Had the same issue, what fixed it for me was to go to system settings>Network>right click Wifi and click make service active, hope it helps
