Apple's Future iPad Updates: 14-Inch Model, Under-Display TrueDepth, OLED Technology and More

Apple is planning a range of transformative upgrades for the iPad lineup in the coming years, including a new 14.1-inch model and an 11-inch model with an OLED display, as well as the introduction of under-screen camera technology and foldable displays, according to reliable display analyst Ross Young.

The comments, made on the latest episode of The MacRumors Show, provide insights into Apple's future plans for the ‌iPad‌. Among the key new details is the fact that Young no longer believes that the 14.1-inch iPad rumored to launch early next year will feature mini-LED technology, with the display effectively being the same LCD that is in the current iPad Air. He added that he is seeking further confirmation from suppliers about the larger device.

Young believes that the 11-inch iPad Pro will stick with its current display technology in the immediate future, with Apple having no plans to upgrade it to a mini-LED display or "Liquid Retina XDR" like the 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌. The company is instead said to be waiting for the jump to ‌OLED‌ displays, which is scheduled to occur for both the 11-inch and the 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ simultaneously in 2024. Young said that Apple expects the ‌OLED‌ 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ to sell in considerably higher volumes than the ‌OLED‌ 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ during their launch year.

Young thinks that Apple's under-display TrueDepth camera could come to the ‌iPad‌ before it comes to the iPhone, with the technology being easier to introduce underneath a larger display with lower pixels per inch. The implementation is also said to be more feasible because the ‌iPad‌ is manufactured in lower volume than the iPhone. He added that this new feature could theoretically emerge as soon as next year, well ahead of when the technology is expected to appear on the iPhone.

In addition, Young claimed that obtaining a sufficient volume of cover glass has been a key limiting factor in Apple's failure to bring a foldable iPhone to market so far. The company is not expected to face such problems with a larger foldable ‌iPad‌ or MacBook, hence why a bigger Apple foldable device could also come to market before a foldable iPhone.

Crackgate? iPhone Duo Owners Report Screens Breaking Along the Hinge

Friday October 23, 2026 11:05 am PDT by
Some iPhone Duos are already experiencing hinge issues that cause display cracks, based on photos shared on Reddit and the MacRumors forums. Almost all of the display faults are right along the hinge, and most result in a line of bright pixels across one side of the screen. An iPhone Duo owner in Australia said his device cracked after being opened fewer than 20 times, and there was no...

I need a docked mode that resembles most of macOS’s functionality/usability before I invest in another iPad.

Who takes pictures with their iPad?
Anybody using it for work related stuff I guess. When I want to show a quick modification to be done on a work site. I take a picture, anotate and send it over.
The same can be done in the fashion industry if someone receives a collection of clothes and wants them to be tweaked a little bit before the release. Take a picture and send it over

One thing i really hope they add to the iPad is waterproofness. When i’m outside taking notes to bid on a new project and it rains, paper becomes a mess and the iPad is not currently waterproof

Also if someone wants to watch a movie in the bathtub? Waterproof iPad to the rescue.

Anyway i’m weird and probably don’t have the same needs as everyone here 🤷🏻‍♂️

None of this matters without improvements to iPadOS. the M1 iPad is already an absolute HORSE. Camera improvements are at the bottom of iPad users most wanted lists. Foldable displays just aren't ready.

Nope I want an iPad that magically transforms the interface to a Mac when I attach a mouse and keyboard or click a button in the control center
This reminds me of people who insist they want pro apps like final cut on iPad.

People want it because it’s not there, but if it ever was, the same users would just use a mac anyway and complain that the iPad experience isn’t as good.

Was going to say, I usually see older people using them as cameras.

Personally, I find them handy for listing things on eBay.
I use mine for research and study. They are perfect for this. I make notes, sketch, read textbooks, articles and papers, all in a thing that’s the size of a best seller book. And super lightweight. Best thing I bought in years. 11” iPad Pro.

Would it be worth having the "guts" of a computer in a keyboard and letting the iPad be a monitor to the keyboard (and access to iPad storage to run MacOS? I just don't think there are enough developers ready to port their MacOS apps to touch. Even powerpoint is horrible on iPad. Word/Excel are usable, but not perfect. I'd love to be able to access desktop versions of certain apps using my iPad Pro screen temporarily. I do 95% of my work on my iPadPro, with this I'll never need a desktop again!
The Apple devs are clearly heading down this path, the path of making iPadOS more desktop centric. The biggest evidence is when Craig Federighi announced that "Desktop-class apps" are coming to iPadOS at this year's WWDC...hell, if you are just going replicate the desktop experience, you might just save yourself some time and just allow dual booting...that allows power users to get the power and flexibility of the desktop environment and it allows devs to save themselves time too in the process - devs won't have to replicate their work...

I just think it is dumb that Apple is just replicating their work from 20 years ago for the iPad, when, they could easily just allow dual booting....
