2022 iPhone SE Will Have 5G But No Design Changes, Major Update Coming in 2024

The upcoming 2022 iPhone SE will gain 5G technology and an updated A-series chip, but it will not feature major design changes, leaker Dylandkt said today, echoing many of the previous iPhone SE rumors we've heard.

Third-generation iPhone SE rumors have been confusing for the last couple of years because some of the information pointed toward a major redesign with an iPhone 11-style look with no Touch ID home button and reduced bezels, but rumors were apparently describing two separate devices.


In addition to the 2022 iPhone SE, which will look like an iPhone 8 just like the 2020 model, Apple is working on a future iPhone SE that will do away with the Home button in favor of an all-display design for Apple's most affordable iPhone option.

According to ‌Dylandkt‌, Apple is developing an iPhone SE that's "similar to the XR/11" but with a "slightly smaller screen size." This device is expected to be released in 2024.

Display analyst Ross Young has also suggested that Apple is working on a 2024 iPhone SE with a 5.7 to 6.1-inch display and a hole-punch camera, which Apple is expected to adopt for the "Pro" iPhone lineup in 2022.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said back in 2019 that Apple was working on an "iPhone SE Plus" with a full-screen design, no Face ID, and a ‌Touch ID‌ fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the side of the device. This iPhone SE never materialized, but it's possible Kuo was talking about the future technology Apple plans to introduce in 2024.

Some of us prefer a home button. Changing the design of the SE is like changing the design of a sphere

Some of us like the old design for practical reasons, not least being it's not very desirable to thieves, which matters when you leave your phone with your towel while swimming, etc.
Yep. I'm still using an iPhone 7 and I love it. I tried a 13 mini, but I just didn't like it as much as my 7. I know that sounds crazy. I tried a 13 and it felt like a giant blocky brick. I just prefer having the home button, touch id, the screen aspect ratio, the size, the rounded edges, the lcd instead of oled. I am really hoping they just improve the battery life on the SE3, because then it will be perfect.

This is not about money. I could buy a 13 Pro Max if I wanted to, but I prefer my 7. IMO, every other phone in Apple's line up feels worse to me than the 6/7/8/SE2020 form factor.

If it's the same design/shape as the last SE, then that is such a dated design - in 2022 even the basic model iPhone should have a larger screen

Literally all of the cheaper competitors have a larger screen design
If you want a larger screen buy a iPad

A smaller iPhone SE styled like an 11 in 2024 sounds a bit questionable. It would be the first time the SE gets its own chassis. Would make more sense if it's based on one of the smaller models.

Good lord. The SE2 looked dated when it came out. The fact that the next one will look the same is nuts

Absolutely, is the iPhone 6 design after all (2014) which was starting to look dated then in 2014, and now by this article Apple expects to be selling this phone well into 2024 for $400 plus tax, which is insane. Besides this phone people will be looking at Xiaomi et al Android's with all-screen designs that look 2022, not 2014.

I get the point here is to have an entry point but current iPhone and that it wasn't gonna sport the 12 mini design, but, despite the up-to-date internals, home button, whatever, the design will be a turn-off for sure and I'd expect Apple to sell less and less of it.
The iphone 7 design is the perfect design.


* My thumb can reach the four corners of the screen (video Apple themselves explaining this ('https://youtu.be/SUE2lqXw4w8?t=990'))
* TouchID is function > form. I don't have to face my phone horizontally for it to unlock or approve things
* wearing glasses, mask, helmet under the bedsheets, or being under the bedsheets will not affect its operations.
* I do not have to do finger ballet dance on my screen to get around. Home button fixes this.
* I think people who think bezels are ridiculous are partially insane. 0 issue with bezels. In fact a whole screen phone makes it hard to use because any where you touch on top might invoke an action like clicking a link or opening an app
* Its actually cheaper, so I save money as a bonus.
* I do not have to use 2 hands or crawl up and down with one hand to operate it.

I hated the iphone mini so much I sold it after few weeks at a significant loss and bought an SE. In the end, to each his own and if its not for SE model I might have moved to an Android phone.

could they do a redesign on how it looks? Sure i will love that, but increases screen size, takeout home button and touch id, ...nope! sorry...



What does SE stand for again? If anything?

I wonder who would buy a device with bezels in 2022 when there are plenty of all display android options out there. Not all people care about 5G or having the latest chip, but they do care about displays.
I would rather have Apple and bezels then Android. Touch ID is also very important to me. I love my 2020 SE!

EDIT: I also prefer smaller phones.

What does SE stand for again? If anything?
It was meant to stand for Special Edition, per one of Apple's VP, some people here say it now stands for Senior Edition.
