Electric vehicle charging network ChargePoint today announced integration with CarPlay, which adds new EV charging data to CarPlay-compatible cars. Drivers can look up nearby chargers, check station status, start a session, get directions to the nearest station, and more.
For convenience, there are filters that will sort stations based on the speed of the charger, cost, availability, and plug type. The CarPlay app also provides access to a list of favorite charging spots and a join waitlist option when stations are full.
To access the new ChargePoint functionality, vehicle owners will need a device updated to iOS 14 or above in a CarPlay vehicle along with the ChargePoint app, which, when connected, will provide charging information on the in-car infotainment system.
ChargePoint is also available through a new ChargePoint widget in the Today View for iPhone that lets drivers locate nearby stations and check real-time charging status, plus it is available on the Apple Watch.
Apple's CarPlay system for accessing iPhone apps on a vehicle's dashboard screen has received six popular apps in recent weeks: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and the indie artist streaming platform Audiomack.
Make sure you have the latest version of each app and they will automatically appear on CarPlay.

SpaceXAI has released Grok Voice mode for Apple CarPlay, allowing CarPlay users to ask the chatbot questions and make requests directly from their vehicle dashboard, handsfree.
Previously, Grok for iPhone displayed a placeholder app in CarPlay saying the handsfree support would be coming soon. Grok comes built-in on Tesla vehicles, but now almost any other car can access it.

Grok has just joined ChatGPT and Perplexity on Apple CarPlay, giving drivers who converse with AI chatbots a third option to choose from.
Developed by Elon Musk's xAI (now SpaceXAI after the two companies were recently folded into each other), Grok's Voice mode tends to offer more quirky responses compared to the other chatbots, but the app's main CarPlay interface is very similar, thanks to ...
CarPlay need charger system integration for all EV chargers, not just ChargePoint. Everything from electrify America, EVgo, and all level 3 chargers. They all need to talk to each other as a system as well as the car so you can painlessly navigate long distance and be automatically routed the same way Tesla superchargers are integrated into the nav system. Makes long distance travel seamless.
I want the PlugShare app on CarPlay for a start. But as long as every charging network is going to have their own app, they all need to get their apps into CarPlay.
Do most EVs support CarPlay/android auto? My only experience is with Tesla and they use their own infotainment system. Rivian is another company that comes to mind that is very exciting. I don't think they will support CarPlay. I guess my question is, how many EVs are using CarPlay? Bolt, Leaf?

Other than Tesla, most newish EVs support CarPlay/AA.
Noticed this last night. Its a great start. Would love to see Electrify America, EVgo, and PlugShare follow suit. CarPlay is getting super useful. Just integrated my garage door into HomeKit and now when I drive up, I get a control on the screen to open my garage. Great stuff.
Totally agree. This is a good start though. As a ChargePoint customer I'm happy to see this integration done! The next step is further integration with the EV control system and CarPlay. I suspect Apple and others are working on an API through which EV data can be accessed while still in CarPlay, allowing for Tesla-like features that can inform when you need to charge next, and where, etc.
I'm seeing more chargepoint level 3 fast chargers on road stops. They're excellent using CCS and chaedemo. It seems like theyre investing more on infrastructure.
