Nintendo's latest smartphone app Mario Kart Tour has been downloaded over 90 million times since it launched last week, according to new download estimates shared by Sensor Tower.

The number eclipses both Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Super Mario Run, which were downloaded a respective 14.3 million times and just under 13 million times in their debut week, making Mario Kart Tour Nintendo's biggest mobile game launch to date.

Breaking down the figure across platforms, the free-to-play game was downloaded 36.5 million times on iOS devices, while the Android version was downloaded 53.3 million times.

In terms of overall revenue driven by in-app purchases, Mario Kart Tour earned $12.7 million, so it hasn't reached the heights of Fire Emblem Heroes, which earned Nintendo $28.2 million in its first week. Super Mario Run meanwhile clocked up $16.1 million in its debut week, making Mario Kart Tour the company's third-biggest game.

Across platforms, $9.6 million (75.5 percent) was spent in-game by iOS device users, while Android IAPs amounted to $3.1 million (24.5 percent). Most spending occurred in the U.S. with $5.8 million, followed by Japan ($4 million) and France ($752,000).

Announced in January 2018, Mario Kart Tour was delayed several times before its debut last week. The game features an optional "Gold Pass" subscription, which introduces various in-game items and badges and also unlocks the faster 200cc mode. Nintendo is offering a two-week free trial, after which it costs $4.99 a month.

Mario Kart Tour is a free download from the App Store, requires iOS 10 or later to play, and officially supports iPhone 5s or iPad Air and later devices. A Nintendo Account is also required to play the game. [Direct Link]

I’d rather they charge $10 upfront like Mario Run instead of $4.99/mo for the “gold pass”.

I deleted this just as fast as I downloaded this.

I stopped playing iOS games a long time ago. I had no problem paying $20 for good games though most of the games cost $10.

now. My kids. I freaking spent $650 on fornite and roblox last year alone. I get why they want IAP. Roblox is the devil. Kids haggle me for $5 here and there. And low and behold. I’m down $650’for 2018. I’m afraid to count how much I’ve spent in 2019 on roblox since my daughter has started playing it also.
No offense, but you are a bit of a sucker to fall for this. you are exactly the type of people these roblox things are targeted on. How hard is it to just say no to your kids and teach them it’s not okay to spend money on nonexistent digital stuff.

I mean, there’s a difference to paying for a good game, and paying for fake money.

Wow is never fails to surprise me at how negative people are - they must really have some issues in their lives because it ain’t about a little iPhone game! I personally love this game, never once used an in app purchase and still playing since in launched I love it, you can happily play with game without spending more on it. A great release in my opinion.

Thing is, with all of these titles, if you go in expecting a full experience and not a tailored mobile experience of course you’ll be disappointed.

I quite like the game, I’m up against the grind wall already though which I find very frustrating. Game earned gems etc are now near impossible for me to get and as such I can’t progress against those spending tonnes on (purposely prohibitively expensive) purchases... but of a downer.

multiplayer will be fun though, as long as 200cc is included. Hopefully that’s not to far away, now they’ve made the profits to buy the infrastructure for it. Right now, I’m not entirely sure who I’m playing against but suspect it’s real user profile data loaded into a bot and then race...
