Logitech Debuts Slim Combo Case for 10.5-Inch and 12.9-Inch iPad Pro With Detachable Backlit Keyboard

by

Logitech has revealed an all-new "Slim Combo" case for the new 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPads, which Apple announced during yesterday's WWDC keynote. Logitech said it worked with Apple to ensure the new case will be in Apple retail stores the same day as the new iPads, and users interested can begin purchasing the case from Logitech and Apple's websites today.

The Slim Combo case can be used in four different modes: Typing, Viewing, FaceTime, and Reading. The company said that users will be able to comfortably type, remove the keyboard to sketch with Apple Pencil, switch to portrait mode for FaceTime, and more.

“In the past, you were bound to a workspace with a PC, and used your tablet for quick messages or entertainment when you weren’t in the office; that’s not the case anymore,” said Michele Hermann, vice president of mobility at Logitech. “To be a pro today, you need the power of the PC, but more easily available whether you're on a train, at the park, in a meeting or wherever you need to be. The Slim Combo unleashes the power of iPad Pro to bring you the future of personal computing; a future that’s easier, faster and more fun.”

The keyboard connects using Apple's Smart Connector and features full-size backlit keys (with three levels of brightness) as well as a dedicated row of iOS shortcut keys. Shortcuts include Home, screen brightness, search, switch keyboard language, keyboard brightness, media controls, volume controls, and a lock screen toggle.

When done typing, the keyboard acts as a front-facing protective cover for the iPad's screen. Multiple viewing angles are supported thanks to two micro hinges that let the case recline within a 50-degree range, and Logitech has also added in an Apple Pencil holder. For the larger 12.9-inch version, users can fold half of the cover under the keyboard to reduce its footprint.

The Slim Combo for 10.5-inch iPad Pro is available to purchase today from Logitech at $129.99, while the Slim Combo for 12.9-inch iPad Pro is listed at $149.99, and both are available in black and classical blue. Apple is also selling the cases on its online store.

Screen refresh rate and it has auto white balance. Other than that I think they added an X to the chipset and doubled storage at all levels.
The chip is A10X vs. A9X in previous iPP 12.9". A10X is 6 core (3 big plus 3 small), compared to dual core A9X. A10X has 12 core GPU. I don't know how many cores A9X had.
Both new models have new "Pro Motion" displays with 120Hz refresh rates (or 24/48Hz for movie playback), and Tru-Tone color whatever.
New models have iPhone 7 (not 7+) camera and flash. Also have better front camera, with display capable of "retina flash". 64/256/512GB storage tiers compared to 32/128/256 tiers.
Hope this helps.

Apple has bastardized the word 'Pro' on all their products that it's lost its meaning essentially..now 3rd party accessory makers are following this trend. A 'Pro' device use to mean something like substantial computing power and memory gain (especially when compared to what was available to the average consumer) to handle heavy or more demanding computing tasks.

Input accessories like keyboard and the pencil do not make a device Pro! They are additional accessories to a mobile multitouch device each designed to handle specific tasks easier. Does this make it 'Pro'? Absolutely Not!
Personal Computing started with the keyboard and mouse...other pointer devices came along as well. They were the only forms of entry before touchscreens came along...so NO! Just because you want to use your multi-touch device like a traditional computer doesnt make it Pro!

The multitasking features that is coming to iOS 11 is going to be available to most of Apple's mobile products. They are also things that have been around, some rethought to accommodate the primary mode of entry for these mobile devices i.e Touch.

This is becoming obnoxious and stupid.

I should point out, watching the ad got me really pissed off
Actually no, posts attempting to define Pro are.

Nice looking keyboard case. I just put in an order from Apple's online store. Says it should be delivered Friday.

I too like that it holds a pencil and the keyboard is removable. At first I thought the keyboard was bluetooth and would work when detached. That would have been a nice feature, but would have added bulk for something I might not use a lot. A real backlit keyboard is nice too.

I didn't plan to buy a pencil, but I need something to put into the pencil holder. So, I ordered one of those too. :)

I might be interested in just buying the back case with the stand. Wonder if they will sell it seperatly at some point?
Thinking the same. I want a case that covers the back only, with no keyboard and with a Kickstand, like the one from this Logitech or the one built-in on the MS Surface Pro. I don't mind not having the keyboard!
Just wanted to echo this sentiment. I have no need of a keyboard for my iPad, but would love a nice kickstand/hand grip for the back. I really wish Native Union would make this ('http://www.nativeunion.com/gripster-wrap/') for the 12.9" Pro.
