MacPaw Launches 'Eney' AI Assistant for Mac and iPhone

MacPaw has launched Eney, a proactive AI assistant for Mac and iPhone that the company says understands what is happening across a user's apps, files, and system, prepares the next step, and asks before it acts.

On Mac, Eney offers copy-triggered suggestions, bot-free meeting transcription with notes and follow-ups, and ready-made workflows such as Morning Brief and Plan My Day. An "Eney Wand" (Option-W) acts on whatever is dragged over to it, and can translate text, convert prices, turn dates into calendar events, and extract text from images.

The app also surfaces Mac care warnings for low disk space, memory pressure, and crashing apps, and connects to Apple Mail, Calendar, and Reminders out of the box, plus Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, Notion, Jira, and Linear.

MacPaw calls Eney "proactive, never autonomous", since by default it asks before sending a message, changing an event, or moving a file. Eney is also the first product powered by MacPaw's own AI stack, including a memory layer called Mnemos that MacPaw says manages only Eney's own memory and never reads or changes user files.

Eney for Mac is available to download from eney.ai and requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. There's a free 14-day trial that includes 10,000 AI credits, after which an AI credits subscription is required. A Starter plan with 10,000 AI credits costs $14.99/month, a Boost plan with 25,000 credits costs $29.99/month, and a Power plan with 50,000 credits costs $49.99/month.

Signing in with a Setapp account is supported, but MacPaw says a Setapp membership is not required on the Mac. An iPhone companion app is also available on the App Store – although its listing describes the app as a companion for active Setapp members, so the eligibility terms on mobile are unclear. For more information, see the Eney website.

Apple Executive Comments on New iPad Mini Lacking 120Hz Display

While the new iPad mini has an OLED display, the device does not support ProMotion, meaning the display's refresh rate is limited to 60Hz instead of 120Hz. ProMotion support would have allowed for the iPad mini's refresh rate to automatically adjust from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on the content being displayed, but evidently Apple has kept the feature exclusive to the iPad Pro among iPad...

Too close to Enemy

I knew an “Eney,” he was a Filipino gentleman whose given name was Renario.
Since MacPaw is a Ukrainian company, they likely took inspiration for the name from “Aeneid ('https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeneid')“ poem by Virgil. In Ukrainian it sounds like “Eney”, as well as one of the famous translations/interpretations of the poem was made by Ukrainian writer Ivan Kotlyarevsky back in 1798

Given MacPaw's history, I'd give this a wide berth.

Just in time to get mogged by every other general computer use agent that exists already, including Siri I guess

I tried this when it was in beta and it was utterly useless, it doesn’t look like it fundamentally changed since then but I could be wrong

It is really a clunky name and it does look like a typo of Enemy.

Agreed. And internet required. I really don’t think AI is helpful for 90% of tasks people use it for, especially when the trade offs are considered.

How far are we from on device AI that is separate from internet dependent?
