iPhone Duo's Vertical Dock Seemingly Limited to Four App Icons

iphone duo vertical dock four icons%402x scaledIt looks like the iPhone Duo's vertical Dock can currently only house four apps maximum. In his hands-on with the device, Marques Brownlee attempted to add a fifth app to the Dock, but was unable to do so. Apple does not mention the four-app limit in its tech documentation, but those hoping to add a fifth or sixth app to it may be out of luck.

For the iPhone Duo, Apple made the Dock vertical along the right of the screen, with unused space at either end of it. It will likely take some getting used to for iPhone users – especially left-handed ones. We don't know if Apple will provide a left-handed mode for the rest of us.

Being limited by 4 apps is not negative, since it’s the same as the standard iPhone. The difference is that you can have folders on the dock for as many apps as you want.

I just really want them to re-visit jiggle mode. Rearranging app icons still feels like trying to defuse a bomb that inevitably always explodes.

Apple and it's limitations are sometimes very frustrating as someone also used to something amazing as "Good Look" on OneUI.

Also, didn't they highlight how they did so much research and talked to all kinds of people to develop the iPhone Duo? None of them was left handed apparently

already looking forward to the inevitable Gurman rumor that "design changes to iOS XX are expected to include additional spots for apps in the Duo's vertical dock"

One of the apps I made actually has options for Left Handed & Right Handed view. This new form factor really just screwed me up royally. And All I can do is sit and wait for Xcode 27.1 before I can do anything about it. Awesome! Way to make sure that developers have close to zero time to work on apps for their new phone!
Yeah, the rollout for developers has been particularly bad for the Duo. I suspect some big names like Uber may get early access, but not you or I.

"We don't know if Apple will provide a left-handed mode for the rest of us."

It's extremely likely Apple has it or will add it. A lot of Apple's design is designed ambidextrous -- Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, etc. There's still a right-hand bias in components of designs, but that's because 90-93% of the population are right-handed.
Apple has closed tickets that deal with left handed issues. I'm not optimistic at all. Which, incidentally, is why I will shout to the high heavens that they need to do it every time this subject comes up; because otherwise they won't.

it will be part of the iPhone Duo Plus option: unlock the capabilities of your iPhone Duo for $99/month: add a 5th icon to the dock 😅
