Tesla is notifying customers that it will soon restock its wireless phone charger at a discount, after the device quickly sold out when it was released late last month.

The Verge reports that emails are going out to customers informing them that the Tesla Wireless Charger, originally costing $65, will return to the electric car maker's online store at a roughly $15 discount, thanks to a higher production run this time around.

The battery-powered Qi-based charger features a sleek white or black enclosure, a 6,000 mAh battery for charging on the go, 5W of output, a built-in USB-C cable for Android devices, and a USB-A port that supports faster wired charging.

Tesla says customers who purchased the charger when it first went on sale in August will be refunded the $16 difference, but the company omitted to mention when the discounted version will be available. We'll update this post if we learn more.

I don't know why anyone is socked by this as it's what humans do (I will refrain from saying stupid humans as who am I to judge!)

It's not WHAT it is, it's who makes it.

I make a clay pot, and no one will want it.
Someone famous makes the exact same pot and people will pay 1000's for it.

Same with a painting. A few coloured lines by an artist £1 million. The same picture with my name on it £ if I'm lucky.

Or let's talk about designed brand clothing? Same quality materials and product, but just sew on your logo and WHOOSH charge 4x the price

I'm not saying I agree with this as it's dumb, but why should TESLA be any different. Branding is what so many care about these days.
We could even talk about Apple accessories that are worse then 3rd party ones, but people pay the extra as it's got the Apple logo on it.

Is there an other battery pack with built-in wireless charging that supports 7.5W for iPhones?
Among the well known brands (e.g., Anker, Mophie), I don't think there are any yet.

If you consider RAVPower to be well known enough, it does offer $49.99 10,400 mAh charger with 7.5 W fast charging.

I think that makes Tesla's now $49 6,000 mAh wireless battery charger a good value. In comparison, Mophie charges whopping $80 for a charge stream powerstation wireless ('http://www.mophie.com/shop/iphone-x/powerstation-wireless') ($100 for 10,000 mAh) that IMO doesn't look quite as nice as Tesla's.

Granted, you can do better by traveling with both USB battery pack and portable 7.5W Qi charger, but it would be less elegant.
