Tim Cook Says New Apple TV Will Ship Next Week, Orders Begin Monday

apple_tv_2015_roundupWhile speaking at tonight's WSJDLive conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the new Apple TV will begin shipping next week. Apple will begin taking orders for the new set-top box on Monday, October 26 with shipments beginning at the end of the week.

The new Apple TV, which Cook also said is the "foundation" for a new type of TV experience, features an A8 processor and either 32 or 64 GB of storage. It also has support for a full App Store, which Apple says will help "modernize" the "linear TV" experience that most consumers are familiar with. The new Apple TV also comes with the brand new Siri Remote, which allows users to use Siri to easily sort and find their favorite TV shows and movies.

The new fourth-generation Apple TV will be available for $149 with 32 GB of storage and $199 with 64 GB of storage.

Me too. Really I want a VLCTV box that plays anything. I have an Apple TV but personally I’ve retitred my old Mac Pro as Media Centre instead.

On another note when are we going to get a reporter with the balls to question this dick head properly;
News - Hi Tim, and welcome to the show. So, the environment it says here, is one of your top prioritites.
Tim - Yes, we at Apple think that our children and our childrens' children should be able to enjoy consuming as many Apples as they choose in safety and for as long as possible.
News - That sounds great Tim. Tell me, when my SSD fails outside of the warranty and asuming I’m not part of a class action, I then have to bin the entire internal assembly instead of getting a simple repair. Almost like binning the Apple with a wormhole instead of cutting the bad part out. Is that better for the environment?
Tim - Well at App…hold on I have to take this………….
Tim - We save resources by eliminating extra connectors from every unit we make - millions of connectors, gold-plated contacts, etc. While the repair depot may swap-out an entire logic board for the sake of a fast turnaround, that logic board will be repaired... When and if we bin a board or component, it goes into recycling, not the landfill.
News - Still, soldered components greatly reduce the possibility of do-it-yourself repairs...
Tim - Our studies show a small minority did their own repairs when these components were socketed, while socketed and conectorized components have a higher failure rate. What price should the masses pay for the sake of the DIYers? I haven't had to carry an iMac to the Genius Bar myself, but I can't imagine it's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

I wished it had 4K (even though I do not have a 4K TV), but I find it surprising that so many people were surprised that the ATV4 does not have 4K.
